Lymphatic Drainage
What is Lymphatic Drainage?
Lymphatic drainage, also known as manual lymphatic drainage, relieves swelling, and helps to drain lymphatic fluid that happens when medical treatment or illness blocks your lymphatic system. Lymphatic drainage massage involves gently manipulating specific areas of your body to help lymph move to an area with working lymph vessels. This modality has a very light touch which is what is required for this treatment to be effective. Very different than a traditional massage!

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a relaxing therapy that can have tremendous health benefits.
Lymphatic drainage is a gentle form of massage used to relieve inflammation related to lymphedema. Lymphedema is a side effect of many health conditions. It’s also common among people recovering from cancer treatments like breast cancer surgery because surgeons remove several lymph nodes during the procedure.
Typically, your lymphatic system collects your lymph and returns it to your heart via a network of vessels and nodes. When something disrupts this process, lymph collects in your arms, legs, ankles or other parts of your body, making them swell.
A massage therapist uses lymphatic drainage techniques to move lymph from your tissues to your lymph nodes, which eases the swelling and pain. The following are conditions that may benefit from lymphatic drainage:
Chronic venous insufficiency
Fibromyalgia
Injury.
Lipedema
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Primary or secondary lymphedema
Swelling at a limb's root
Trunk and midline edema
Comfort and pain relief
Adjunct to pain management
Preventative treatment
Post-operative swelling
In addition Increasing lymph flow helps the body shed excess weight and removes toxins: Lymphatic drainage massage pushes fluid to the lymph channels, aiding in the natural removal of toxins. Absorbing excess fats: The lymphatic system transports excess fats from the digestive system to the bloodstream for energy and waste.
